Ich habe mein altes Welcome to Venice Tape wiedergefunden – ein absoluter Meilenstein aus der Venice Beach Crossover Ära der Mitte der 80er. Der Sampler war nicht nur die erste Veröffentlichung von Suicidal Records, sondern auch mein persönlicher Einstieg in die gesamte Venice Szene.
Bestellt hatte ich das Tape Ende der 80er über irgendeinen Mail Order und es wurde für Jahre mein Soundtrack beim Skaten. Nachdem ich vorher bereits Suicidal Tendencies gefeiert hatte, brachte mich dieser Sampler erstmals in Kontakt mit Beowülf, Los Cycos, No Mercy und Excel. Natürlich habe ich mir danach sämtliche verfügbaren Platten dieser Bands besorgt und sie sind bis heute ein ganz besonderer Teil meiner Sammlung.
Der Venice Beach Crossover Sound hatte damals einen enormen Einfluss auf mein Gitarrenspiel und ehrlich gesagt hat er ihn bis heute nicht verloren. Diese rohe Mischung aus Thrash, Punk und Street Attitude hat meinen Stil nachhaltig geprägt.

I just rediscovered my old Welcome to Venice tape – a true milestone of the mid 80s Venice Beach crossover era. The sampler wasn’t just the first release on Suicidal Records, it was also my personal doorway into the entire Venice scene.
I originally ordered the tape from some random mail order in the late 80s and for years it became my soundtrack while skating. After already being deep into Suicidal Tendencies, this sampler introduced me to Beowülf, Los Cycos, No Mercy and Excel for the first time. Of course, I bought every record I could find afterwards and they remain a very special part of my collection today.
The Venice Beach crossover sound had a huge impact on my guitar playing back then and honestly it still does. That raw mix of thrash, punk and street attitude has shaped my style ever since.
Welcome to Venice – a piece of history. And for me pure nostalgia.
