Manche Platten bleiben.
Ich lese gerade ein Buch über die Geschichte von Bad Religion. Das hat mich dazu gebracht, ihre alten Platten wieder hervorzuholen.
Suffer war für mich damals wegweisend – ein wichtiges Bindeglied zwischen Punk und Hardcore. Kritische Texte, rasante Musik, Druck und gleichzeitig starke Melodien. Genau diese Mischung hat mich gepackt.
No Control ging für mich noch einen Schritt weiter und ist bis heute mein absolutes Highlight der Band. Und das Erstaunliche: Beim Wiederhören funktioniert die Platte für mich immer noch genauso wie damals.
Spielerisch haben mich Bad Religion weniger beeinflusst. Viel wichtiger war für mich die Erkenntnis, wie vielfältig Hardcore sein kann: wütend und aggressiv, aber gleichzeitig schnell, druckvoll und melodisch.
Manche Musik verschwindet eben nicht. Man hört sie nach Jahrzehnten wieder – und sie ist sofort wieder da.
Some records stay.
I’m currently reading a book about the history of Bad Religion. It made me pull out some of their old records again.
Suffer was a landmark album for me – an important link between punk and hardcore. Critical lyrics, speed, power and strong melodies. That combination immediately grabbed me.
No Control took it even further and is still my absolute favorite Bad Religion album. And the amazing thing is: listening to it again, it still works for me just like it did back then.
Bad Religion didn’t influence me that much as a player. What mattered more was realizing how diverse hardcore can be: angry and aggressive, but also fast, powerful and melodic.
Some music never really disappears. You hear it again decades later – and it’s instantly there.
