The Eternal Debate: Real Amp vs. Amp Simulation: Which One is the Real Deal?
The debate between classic guitar amps and modern amp simulations is still going strong. While big tube amps and 4×12 cabs used to be the standard, more and more bands today rely on in-ears and a simple pedalboard. The advantage? A consistent sound, no need for miking, and fewer issues with room acoustics and volume control.
In the studio, the differences are barely noticeable high-quality amp sims sound incredibly realistic and offer full control at any volume. What I personally miss is the physical impact of a cranked 4×12 cab, but sonically, the digital solution convinces me completely. If I were to buy a real amp today, it would be more for nostalgia than necessity. What’s your take on this?
