Manchmal ist Musik machen wie Mathematik.
Klar – Musik soll aus dem Bauch kommen, auf Emotionen beruhen und auch mal bewusst aus allen musiktheoretischen Regeln ausbrechen. Aber manchmal… hilft nur zählen. Neulich in der Probe: Wir saßen zusammen an einem neuen Song. Ich hatte eine Riff-Abfolge im Kopf, aber irgendwie wollte sie einfach nicht sauber mit dem Schlagzeug harmonieren. Wir haben hin- und herprobiert, gezählt, umgerechnet – und plötzlich wurde klar: Das Ding passt nur, wenn ich mich mal davon löse, ständig im gewohnten 4/4 zu denken. Also Gefühl kurz zur Seite, Kopf einschalten und ein bisschen Kopfrechnen. Und siehe da: Auf einmal fügt sich alles perfekt zusammen.
Manchmal braucht Musik eben beides – Herz und Kopfrechnen.
Sometimes making music feels like doing math. Sure — music should come from the gut, rely on emotion, and occasionally break free from all theoretical rules. But sometimes… counting is the only way. During our last rehearsal, we were working on a new song. I had a riff sequence in mind, but it just wouldn’t lock in with the drums. We tried different approaches, counted it out, recalculated — and suddenly it became clear: this part only works when I stop thinking in my usual 4/4 patterns. So I put the feeling aside for a moment, switched on the brain, and did a bit of mental math. And boom — everything fell perfectly into place. Sometimes music needs both — heart and mental math.
