California’s All, formerly known as the Descendents, recorded what I consider the ultimate bubblegum pop-punk heartbreak anthem with She’s My Ex. The playful energy, sugary melodies, and Scott Reynolds’ emotional yet captivating vocals make this song an absolute standout. Back in 1988, this record introduced me to the more melodic side of punk rock.
The B-side, Crazy?, is a faster track but doesn’t quite match the brilliance of the title song. A year later, She’s My Exfound its place on Allroy’s Revenge, an album that many—including myself—consider All’s finest work.
