What i am hearing today (Durchde )Bloodstain – I Am Death

It’s rare for a newcomer band to captivate me so intensely with just one song that I felt compelled to order the CD immediately.
Bloodstain’s debut EP, available on both CD and vinyl, is a self-released gem from a young Swedish band hailing from Stockholm. Produced by Simon Johansson (known for his work with Soilwork and Wolf) and mixed and mastered by Ronnie Björnström (who has worked with Meshuggah among others), this release is a powerhouse of talent.
Although the band members are likely just of legal age, their sound is remarkably mature and refined. Given the band’s name, artwork, and album title, one might expect a darker metal genre. However, Bloodstain delivers pure, unadulterated thrash metal in the vein of early Bay Area bands.
The quartet has a distinct early Metallica vibe, particularly reminiscent of the „Ride the Lightning“ era. The vocals also strongly echo this period, with occasional hints of early Testament shining through. While their sound is rooted in the past, Bloodstain revitalizes it with a fresh energy and youthful charm, especially evident in their impressive guitar work.
I am confident that if Bloodstain continues on this path, it’s only a matter of time before they are discovered by a fitting label and become the next big thing in the thrash metal scene.
