THE ILLUSION OF THE PERFECT PERFORMANCE
When I started learning music production, I thought: Real is the deal.
A band plays its song perfectly – and that’s how a professional record is made.
Today I know: It’s not that simple.
Modern productions use editing, drum samples, vocal tuning, guitar editing and many other tools. Most of it isn’t even noticeable.
And this is nothing new. Analog productions also involved editing and manipulation.
For me, live performance and album production are two different things.
In the rehearsal room, music can be raw and dynamic. In the studio, it’s about achieving a specific sound and vision.
Honesty is what isn’t hidden.
So: Leave your ego at the studio door.
