Rawside, the hardcore punk veterans from Coburg, are back with their latest album Menschenfresser. With 13 tracks, this release took me by surprise. I’ll admit, I had previously dismissed the band as just another typical Deutschpunk act, falling into the usual clichés. But today, I stand corrected.
Now signed to Fettfleck Records—the label run by Loikaemie. Rawside delivers a powerful mix of hardcore with a strong metallic edge. The production, handled by Kohlekeller Studios, packs an incredible punch, giving the album a raw yet polished sound that hits hard from start to finish.
Lyrically, Menschenfresser stands out for its sharp political commentary. The band takes an unflinching stance against right-wing extremism, conspiracy theorists, and the „Querdenker“ movement, making it clear where they stand. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard an album where the message takes such a central role, and it’s refreshing to see a band so committed to speaking truth to power.
The only downside? The cover artwork feels a bit kitschy. Don’t let that deter you, though—the content more than makes up for it. This is easily one of the strongest releases out of Germany in recent memory, and I highly recommend giving it a spin.
